PETS－5：五级是最高级，相当于我国大学英语专业二年级结束时的水平。是专为申请公派出国留学的人员设立的英语水平考试。

分数权重
PETS一至五级的考试均采用分数加权的办法，即对各部分题目的原始赋分分别给予不同的权重，使之能够平衡各种技能的考察关系。此外，不同级别相同部分分数权重的变化还反映出PETS对各种技能考察要求的演进。

而中国对外汉语教学真正迎来自己的春天还是在进入21世纪之后，随着世界逐渐进入信息时代，进入知识经济、经 济全球化时代，整个语言科学在21世纪的地位越来越高。由于中国近20年来经济突飞猛进地发展，国际地位迅速提升；又 由于中国有无比巨大的广阔市场，所以任何类型的国家，不管是发达国家，还是发展中国家，为了和平与发展，为了自身的国 家利益，都不能不跟中国打交道，而要跟中国打交道，不能不要求他们的国人努力学习汉语。[3]
与中国的强势发展相呼应，在全球，汉语热也不断升温，汉语正逐步成为一种强势语言。据报纸报道，21世纪多欧美 国家已将汉语列入高考外语考试任选科目之中。由于汉语热的影响，专业的英语学习及考试是想要从事对外汉语教师职业的学生的首选目标。
成绩作用

在PETS等级描述中给出了各级考试成绩的适用范围，仅供考生个人和考生成绩使用者参考。
教育部考试中心负责解释PETS各级考试的水平；考生成绩的使用权在录取部门或用人单位。
作为社会性考试，PETS不具有评价普通中学和大学校内英语教学水平的功能；拒绝向考生的教学或辅导单位提供考生成绩。任何人不得用此项考试的成绩评价、干扰校内正常的英语教学，不得用PETS考试成绩代替普通中学和大学的英语结业考试。
PETS各级考试成绩的有效期由录取部门或用人单位自行决定。
全国英语等级考试（PETS）2级笔试合格者，可以免考自学考试英语（一）。全国英语等级考试（PETS）3级笔试合格者，可以免考自学考试英语（二）【可免考英语（二）的考生同时可免考英语（一）】。
注意事项

1、考生在报名时填写《报名卡》或以其他形式按报名点要求提供相关信息，按规定履行各项手续，随后还要按当地考试机构指定的时间和地点领取《准考证》和《考试通知单》，否则依然无法参加考试。考生报名时要认真核验《准考证》上的信息内容，有错误时应及时要求报名点更改。
2、开考前一天，考生最好先到《考试通知单》上所安排的考试地点，熟悉自己所在的考场。
3、考试时考生应严格遵守《考生守则》并听从监考人员的指导，违反考试规定者将取消其考试成绩。
4、考试前，考生一定要准备好黑色字迹的签字笔以及2B铅笔。考试中，不得使用其他类型的笔。
5、一级B（PETS 1B）——四级（PETS 4）共五个级别考试的报名地点由承办该项考试的省、自治区、直辖市的教育考试机构决定，具体报名时间及地点可向他们咨询。第五级（PETS 5，即原WSK-EPT）的报名地点在全国各WSK考点。
6、PETS考试考生报考不受地域的限制，可以跨地区报考。
7、考生要按时参加考试。笔试考生从8:30开始入场，8:45后不得入场。上午进行的口试考生从8:30开始入场，9:00后不得入场；下午进行的口试考生从13:30开始入场，14:00后不得入场。
8、考生在参加考试时，必须持准考证、考试通知单、本人身份证（或公安户籍部门开具的身份证号码证明、未成年人的户口本、军人武警人员证件）或者护照、港澳台地区的居民身份证等有效证件入场考试，三证缺一不可。

考前准备
因为考场是随机抽取的，有些考生容易迟到。PETS考试规定进场时间为上午8点45分，超过时间就不可以进场，所以考生一定要注意，决不可以迟到。建议提前一个小时出门，或者提前几天前往考场探一下道路情况。
考生对当天的着装也需引起注意，特别是夏天。有些男同学穿着厚实，还没有开始考试就不停地流汗，无形中会影响考试时的情绪。有些女同学则穿着过于轻薄，对口试来说，也许会影响到考官对其整体印象分的评判。此外，通过多年的教学和监考经验，新东方pets老师提醒同学们，考试当天的文具要准备充分。有些考生到临考前才举手问老师有没有多余的铅笔，如果因为这些意外情况而影响考试，就得不偿失了。建议大家准备两支2B的木头铅笔，不要使用活动铅笔。圆珠笔、钢笔等也要事先试用。特别提醒一点，修正液对于PETS考试来说是不能用的，如有学员使用修正液，其考卷将会被认作废卷处理。
应试技巧
听力考试开始前的几分钟，老师会把卷子发下来，这时有些同学就会很着急的开始做选择题或者阅读题，其实这个时候，你应该好好把听力的题目浏览一遍，熟悉一下听力中将要考到的场景，充分的准备工作对听力考试有很大的好处。
如果遇到没听清楚的题目，考生可考虑放弃该题，专心听下一道。不要死盯着一道题目，以至影响后面的发挥，让小问题搞坏了你的考试心情。
答题顺序要有技巧，要学会争取拿下高分题目。比如二级，一开始就是选择题，然后是完形填空，有不少同学的时间都花在这完形填空上。而实际上，这一部分的分数比重很少，真正拉大广大考生的差距的，是阅读！与其花半小时在完形填空上面，还不如抽时间好好看一下，仔细复查一下阅读题目。
有些同学到最后会来不及做作文，那是因为平时训练不够的原因。建议大家在备考前，适当地可以备几篇考试常见类型的作文，如二级的书信类作文，三级的图标类作文。这样到真正考试的时候，便能胸有成竹。
口试主观性还是很强的，除了你自身的口语素质之外，很多时候都要看老师对你的一个印象的，这倒与中高级口译考试很相似。考官不可能100%全神贯注每个学生的每一句话，最后给出的还是对考生的总体印象分。
PETS考试考生只要达到3分以上就能让你通过。所以，当你进门时，给老师一个微笑，向老师说一句Morning，这些小举动就是你的“加分”行为。
每一次考试都会出现一些考生，他们没有参加过任何培训就直接参加考试。这些考生多半是想摸摸运气，看看水平是否能过。
根据考官得出的经验，这样的考生一般笔试不在话下，但一碰到口试，大都连明显的连题目类型都看不懂。所以，建议大家在口试考试前，不管有没有参加过培训班，都至少要把考试类型和流程了解一下。
在二级口试中，考官就碰到这样一名学生，进入考场就用英语跟考官说：“我英文很烂，能不能不要弄这张表格上的，我们直接对话？”当然，这是不可能的，考试是以公正为前提的，千万不要以为你能在这样一场考试中侥幸通过。
最后，考生切记，不要一句话都不说，只要你开口，多少还是会有一点分数的。即使你说得不好，也要张口。
此外，整个口试过程可能令考生比较紧张，有些考生不停的擦汗，说话结巴，连说断句，连考官都没有耐心听了最后。建议考生们深呼吸，让自己保持轻松的心情。尽管每一个口试部分都是有时间限制的，但只要你能自信的把你的答案说出来，自然地和你的同伴交流，你就不会失掉很多分数。
