Masquerade
假面舞會/化妝舞會

化裝舞會一般要求參加的小夥伴帶假面具（wearing masks）或者其他的一些特殊裝扮，化裝舞會整體的氛圍是優雅的（elegant）、充滿復古氣息的（old-fashioned）、比較奇特的。
masqueradeballs（化裝舞會）是在16世紀末的時候從義大利流傳來的，這個詞在文人圈中開始流行，在莎士比亞的《羅密歐與朱麗葉（Romeo and Juliet）》中，這對不幸的戀人（star-crossed lovers）就是在假面舞會上認識的。埃德加·愛倫·坡（Edgar Allan Poe，19世紀美國詩人、小說家和文學評論家）1842年的短片小說（short story）The Masque of the Red Death《紅死病魔的面具》，也用假面舞會作為他小說推進情節發展的催化劑。
masquerade 還有「偽裝；掩飾」的含義：

Fete
露天游樂會
在戶外舉辦的園游會，你可以參加比賽，買些小玩意兒， 吃吃喝喝，舉辦Fete主要是為了什麼籌錢，在游樂會上售賣的錢會專門用來做某件事情。

e.g. They'reholdingthevillagefete on thegreen.他們正在公共草地上舉行村民游樂會。
fete來源於法語詞fete，意思是「feast（盛宴）」，Fete 特殊情況下還有宗教協會的意思。
除此之外，fete作為動詞，有「贊揚；隆重歡迎」的含義：
e.g. She was feted byaudiencesboth in her owncountryandabroad.
她受到國內外觀眾的高度贊揚。

Shindig
狂歡會
Shindig指的是那種場面比較大的狂歡會，通常都要跳舞，比較吵鬧那種。美國狂歡會大概在19世紀中期出現，大概是受到了早期曲棍球的影響，Shindig是一個合成詞（shin小腿+ dig挖掘），不難聯想到跳舞時的腿部動作。
所以Shindig指喧鬧的事件（或情形），（尤指）狂歡會，盛大慶祝會
e.g. They're going totheirneighbours' for a shindig.
他們打算去鄰居家狂歡。

Salon
沙龍
在啟蒙運動時期（the Enlightenment），沙龍開始在那些有先進思想的藝術家（artists）、音樂家（musicians）、哲學家（philosophers）和政治家（politicians）之間流行起來，大家在一個下午或者晚上聚在某個人家裡進行交流和談話。
salon這個詞來源於法語術語意思是「lounge（客廳、起居室）」，16世紀晚期，salon為了專門用來招待客人而進行精心設計和裝修，現在也用來指一些比較高端的聚會。例如：aliterarysalon （文學沙龍）。
除此之外，salon還指一些商店：（提供服務的）廳，院，室，店；（尤指）美容院，美發廳，時裝店

Clambake
（通常在海濱舉行的）海味野餐會
19世紀30年代的時候，外國人在戶外聚會吃烤海鮮的時候發明了這個詞，在石頭上烤clam（蛤蜊）。
隨著時間的流逝，這個詞代表的含義跟picnic（野餐）越來越接近了，也不一定非要吃蛤蜊，到了20世紀30年代的時候，只要是熱鬧的社交聚會都可以說是clambake，因為吃什麼已經不是最重要的啦。

Prom
畢業舞會
在美國，畢業舞會是學年末為高年級學生舉行的正式舞會。
最早出現是在19世界的末的時候，prom是promenade的縮略形式，來自於法語的含義「a leisurely stroll（悠閑地漫步）」，大概描述了在正式的舞會上客人緩緩步入舞廳的樣子，在英國，prom也指那些站著聽的音樂會。

Soiree
（常指有音樂演出的）晚會
Soiree通常在晚上舉行，尤其是有特殊原因舉辦的晚會。
西方國家在18世紀的時候開始舉辦類似的晚會，soir法語的含義是「evening」。

㈡ 美國高中 畢業舞會

In America,the month May is often called"Prom Season". A prom is a formal dance that occurs at the end of spring to celebrate the end of yet another acadamic year.This event is particularly special to seniors,who view prom as a class before heading off to college.
Planning often starts months before the day of the prom.First,classmate must find a date to go with.Many people use this situation to finally ask that girl out before it's too late.Some go with thier significant others, and others go as good friends.
As couples begin to prepare for prom,the money issue becomes a factor.Prom bids (that's what the tickets are called)at our school run aroud $80 a bid.Usually,the guy will pay for both tickets,meaning they have to shell out aroud $160 just to go.Girls need to buy dresses ,shoes,and make appointments for thier hair,nails,and makeup.Guys must rent or buy tuxedos.Seniors,in particular,can easily spend $1,000 on prom.
This year,I was invited to the senior prom by a friend(not my boyfriend).Usually only seniors attend the senior prom.However when guys are desperate,it is not uncommon for them to invite underclassmen. As a sophomore,I was
particularly delighted.
However, I wasn't able to prepare as well as many seniors.I did manage to buy a new dress and shoes.Because of a heavy workload at school,Iwas left scrambing aroud town trying to get my hair and makeup done on the day of the prom. Eventually, I settled for a no-nonsense,juse-out-of-the-shower hairdo and managed to get my good friend Susanna to apply makeup to me.
Nevertheless,I had a great time at Prom 2008.

㈢ 美國高中畢業舞會Prom，重點是跳什麼舞美國的同學們趕快來幫我。

T、T話說我上次和男朋友跳華爾茲來著。。。還不算華爾茲。。那種最基本的四版步。。。

結果跟大家都不太一樣權，丟臉死了。T、T

不過沒關系~~！輕音樂的時候上去跳就行啦，一聽音樂換了就迅速跑下場喝東西就好·~

百試百靈哈~！而且我覺得他們個性那麼好，就算跳草裙舞他們也不會覺得怎麼樣的~

老外果然是神奇的物種啊。
