Protect Your Privacy when Job-Hunting Online,
Six Secrets of High Energy People基本一致。 Identity theft is a minor offence and its effect has been overestimated.
Protect your privacy when job-hunting online
3 N, 對應原文第三段第一句話,Smith說identity theft is an absolute epidemic.
8 unwelcome emails
9 names and contact information
47 complain
48 seriously
49 determining
50 range
51 specialize
52 issues
53 involves
54 result
55 limited
56 significant
第三題與原文第三段對應,講的是free writing的目的是to get words down對應C選項to get one』s idea down。

1.Painting in ____ is one of their spare-time activities.
A. oil B. an oil C. oils D.the oil
查oil: 4 oils [pl] paints made by mixing colouring matter in oil 油畫顏料: paint in oils 畫油畫.
3.One of the most surprising things is that ____may come from petroleum.
A.much of tomorrow food B .many of tomorrow's food
C.much of the food of tomorrow D.much of tomorrow's food
查詞典,知道,未來的世界可以說:the world of tomorrow《21世紀》

Chinese parents have frequently tended to pay too much attention to their children's study, so that children don’t help them do the housework. Their only requirement for their children is to study hard, perform well in the exams, and go to a famous/prestigious university. They believe it is good for their children, because in such a highly competitive society, only good results could ensure a promising future. Chinese parents also believe that parents will be honored if their children can achieve great success in society. Therefore, they are willing to sacrifice their own time, hobbies and interests, to create much better conditions for children.

A. In the classroom.
B. At he post office.
C. In the bank.
D. In a park.
16.
A. The woman is excited to have lunch with the man.
B. The woman has appointment with someone else.
C. The woman thinks the man did wrong in the morning.
D. The woman is afraid that the man has lunch alone.
15.
W: I want to send this package by first class mail. I'dalso like some stamps.
M: Do you want the mail insured?
Q: Where are the two speakers?
16.
M: I thought that maybe we could go there for lunch today. That is, if you haven't promised togo with someone else.
W: That'd be wonderful, Joe. But I hope you're in a better mood than you were this morning.
Q: What does the woman mean?
「中but」題。女士的話That'd bewonderful...

36. interview
37. required
38. place
39. retirements
40. openings
41. illustrate
42. correspond
43. contact
Their salaries are usually petitive and the chances for advancement are even stronger than those of a big firm
聽音關鍵:salaries, petitive, chances for advancement, stronger than, big firm

45. 標准答案:if you had climbed the more petitive ladder of a corporate giant
聽音關鍵:had climbed, more petitive ladder, corporate giant
答案重構:if you had climbed the more petitive ladder of a big pany
In large firms it may take years to reach that level and accumulate similar experience
聽音關鍵:large firms, take years, reach that level, accumulate, similar experience
In big panies, if you want to be in that position and get similar experience, you may spend years of time

22.
A. He is going to a business convention in town.
B. He is going to meet his clients.
C. He is going to deal with workplace accidents.
D. He is going to be interviewed for new employment.
Now you'll hear the two long conversations.
Conversation One
W: Hi. How can we help you today?
M: Yeah. I'd like to get my hair trimmed a little. Nothing fancy. Just a basic trim.
W: Well, can we interest you in today's special?
M: Um... No...
W: [19]We'll shampoo, cut, and style your hair for one unbelievable low price of $9.99. Plus, we'll give you a clean shave and a back massage to help you relax. Best service in town!
M: Okay, [20]I'll have the plete service today, but as I said before, I just want to get my hair trimmed. A little off the top and sides. That's all. I mean, that's all.
W: No problem. Relax. [21]You're in good hands. Okay, here we go. So, what do you do for a living?
M: I'm a lawyer, specializing in workplace accidents, and [22]I'm in town for an interview for a new job, and... Hey, what happened to my hair? And what's left of my hair turned purple. Are you even a licensed beautician?
W: Well, sir. We offer a money-back guarantee on all our work, so if you're not pletely satisfied...
M: Satisfied? I'm anything but satisfied. [22]How in the world am I supposed to go to a job interview looking like this? Forget it. Forget it.
Questions 19 to 22 are based on the conversation you have just heard.
19. What is one service NOT included in the special price at the beauty salon?
20. Why does the man repeatedly say "That's all"?
根據男士說的「Okay, I'll have the plete service today」,可排除A甚至D全套服務所需的長時間與quickly矛盾;B無依據。
21. What does the beautician mean by "You're in good hands"?
本題問「You're in good hands」是什麼意思 。
22. Why does the customer go to this beauty salon to improve his appearance?
四個選項均以「He is going to」開頭,差別在to後面的內容上。

If the population of the earth goes on increasing at its present rate, there will eventually not be enough resources left to sustain life on the planet. By the middle of the 21st century, if present trends continue, we will have used up all the oil that drives our cars, for example. Even if scientists develop new ways of feeding the human race, the crowded conditions on earth will make it necessary for lus to look for open space somewhere else. But none of the other planets in our solar system are capable of supporting life at present. One possible solution to the problem, however, has recently been suggested by American scientist, Professor Carl Sagan.
Sagan believes that before the earth'畢衡s resources are compleetely exhausted it will be possible to change the atmophere of Venus and so create a new world almost as large as earth itself. The difficult is that Venus is much hotter than the earth and there is only a tiny amount of water there.
Sagan proposes that algae organisms that can live in extremely hot or cold atmospheres and at the same time proce oxygen, should be bred in condition similar to those on Venus. As soon as this has been done, the algae will be placed in small rockets. Spaceship will then fly to Venus and fire the rockets into the atmosphere.
The Internet Doesn』 t Hurt People - People Do: 『The NewDigital Age』
The rise of the Internet has been one of the most transformative developments in human history, comparable in impact to the invention of the printing press and the telegraph. Over two billionpeople worldwide now have access to vastly more information than ever before, and cancommunicate with each other instantly, often using Web-connected mobile devices they carryeverywhere. But the Internet』s tremendous impacts has only just begun.
「Mass adoption of the Internet is driving one of the most exciting social, cultural, and politicaltransformations in history, and unlike earlier periods of change, this time the effects are fullyglobal,」 Schmidt and Cohen write in their new book. The New Digital Age.
Perhaps the most profound changes will come when the five billion people worldwide who currentlylack Internet access get online. The authors do an excellent job of examining the implications ofthe Internet revolution for indivials, governments, and institutions like the news media. But if thebook has one major shortcoming, it』s that authors don』t spend enough time applying a critical eyeto the role of Internet businesses in these weeping changes.
In their book, the authors provide the most authoritative volume to date that describes - andmore importantly predicts - how the Internet will shape our lives in the coming decades. They painta picture of a world in which indivials, companies, institutions, and governments must deal withtwo realities, one physical, and one virtual.
At the core of the book is the idea that 「technology is neutral, but people aren』t.」 By using thisconcept as a starting point, the authors aim to move beyond the now familiar optimist vs.pessimist dichotomy(對立觀點)that has characterized many recent debates about whether the riseof the Internet will ultimately be good or bad for society. In an interview with TIME earlier this week,Cohen said although he and his co-author are optimistic about many aspects of the Internet, they』re also realistic about the risks and dangers that lie ahead when the next five billion peoplecome online, particularly with respect to personal privacy and state surveillance(監視).
In what way is the rise of the Internet similar to the invention of the printing press andthe telegraph?
A It transforms human history. C. It is adopted by all humanity.
B.It facilitates daily communication. D.It revolutions people』s thinking.
正確選項:根據題文同序的原則和題中的關鍵「the rise of the Internet」和「the invention of theprinting press and the telegraph」回到文中,定位到第一段的第一句。 The rise of the Internet hasbeen one of the most transformative developments in human history, comparable in impact to theinvention of the printing press and the telegraph. Over two billion people worldwide now have access to vastly moreinformation than ever before, and can communicate with each other instantly, often using Web-connected mobile devices they carry everywhere. B.It facilitates daily communication.
A It transforms human history. C It is adopted by allhumanity. D.It revolutions people』s thinking.
How do Schmidt and Cohen describe the effects of the Internet?
A They are immeasurable. C They are unpredictable.
B They are worldwide. D They are contaminating
「Mass adoption of the Internet is driving one of the mostexciting social, cultural, and political transformations in history, and unlike earlier periods of change, this time the effects are fully global,」根據關鍵詞effect,所以可以精確定位到這句話的後半句,thistime the effect are fully global。 B They are worldwide.
In what respect is the book The New Digital Age considered inadequate?
A It fails to recognize the impact of the Internet technology.
B It fails to look into the social implications of the Internet.
C It lacks an objective evaluation of the role of Internet businesses.
D It does not address the technical aspects of Internet communication.
But if the book has one majorshort-coming, it』s that the authors don』t spend enough time applying a critical eye to the role ofInternet businesses in these sweeping changes. C It lacks an objective evaluation of therole of Internet businesses.
59.What will the future be like when everybody gets online?
A People will be living in two different realities.
B People will have equal access to information.
C People don』t have to travel to see the world.
D People don』t have to communicate face to face.
They paint a paint of aworld in which indivials, companies, institutions, and governments must deal with two realities, one physical, and one virtual. They paint a paint of a world是題干中future的改寫,所以後面提到的deal with two realities, one physical, and one virtual. They paint a paint of a world就是未來會出現的場景。而選項中只有A提到了two different realities。 A People will be living in twodifferent realities.
What does the passage say about the authors of The New Digital Age?
A They leave many questions unanswered concerning the Internet.
B They are optimistic about the future of the Internet revolution.
C They have explored the unknown territories of the virtual world.
D They don』t take sides in analyzing the effects of the Internet.
By usingthis concept as a starting point, the authors aim to move beyond the now familiar optimist vs.pessimist dichotomy (對立觀點)that has characterized many recent debates about whether therise of the Internet will ultimately be good or bad for society. In an interview with Time earlier this week ,Cohen said that although he and his co-author are certainly optimistic about many aspects of the Internet, they』re also realistic about therisks and dangers that lie ahead when the next five billion people come online, particularly withrespect to personal privacy and state surveillance(監視). DThey don』t take sides in analyzing the effects of the Internet.
Passage Two
In 1950, a young man would have found it much easier than it is today to get and keep a job inthe auto instry. And in that year the average autoworker could meet monthly mortgage(抵押貸款)payments on an average home with just 13.4 percent of his take-home pay. Today a similarmortgage would claim more than twice that share of his monthly eamings.
Other members of the autoworker』s family, however might be less inclined to tried the present forthe past. His retired parents would certainly have had less economic security back then. Through-out much of the 1960s,more than a quarter of men and women and women age 65 and olderlived below the poverty level, compared to less than 10 percent in 2010.
In most stales, his wife could not have taken out a loan or a card in her own name. In 42 states, ahomemaker had no legal claim on the earnings of her husband. And nowhere did a wife have legalprotection against family violence.
Most black workers would not want to return to a time when, on average they earned 40 percentless than their white counterparts(職位相當的人),white racially restrictive agreements largelyprevented them from buying into the suburban neighborhoods being built for white working -classfamilies.
Today, new problems have emerged in the process of resolving old ones, but the solution is not togo back to the past. Some people may long for an era when divorce was still hard to come by. Thespread of no -fault divorce has reced the bargaining power of whichever spouse is moreinterested in continuing the relationship. And the breakup of such marriages has caused pain formany families.
The growing diversity of family life comes with new possibilities as well as new challenges. Accordingto a recent poll, more than 80 percent of Americans believe that their current family is as close asthe one in which they grew up, or closer. Finding ways to imaginary golden age.
61 What do we learn about American autoworkers in 1950?
A.They had less job security than they do today.
B.It was not too difficult for them to buy a house.
C.Their earnings were worth twice as much as today.
D.They were better off than workers in other instries.
In1950, a young man would have found it much easier than it is today to get and keep a job in theauto instry. And in that year the average autoworker could meet monthly mortgage(抵押貸款)payments on an average home with just 13.4 percent of his take-home pay. B.It was not too difficult for themto buy a house.
Today a similar mortgage wouldclaim more than twice that share of his monthly eamings.

Part Ⅲ Reading Comprehension (40 minutes)
Section A
Directions: In this section, there is a passage with ten blanks. You are required to select one word for each blank from a list of choices given in a word bank following the passage. Read the passage through carefully before making your choices. Each choice in the bank is identified by a letter. Please mark the corresponding letter for each item on Answer Sheet 2 with a single line through the centre. You may not use any of the words in the bank more than once.
Questions 26 to 35 are based on the following passage.
“Science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated." Those were the words uttered by pioneering British scientist Rosalind Franklin, who firmly believed that the pursuit of science should be (26) to all.
As a woman working in the first half of the 20th century, Franklin’.s contributions to some of the greatest scientific discoveries of our time - including the structure of DNA - were sadly
(27) in her lifetime. One of my proudest moments in my role as universities and science minister was being able to go some way to redress this injustice last month, by unveiling the new Mars rover named after this brilliant British scientist.
Today, on International Women’ s Day, it is only right that we recognize the important work of female scientists like Franklin and seek to honour her memory by inspiring more women and girls to follow in her footsteps.
More than 60 years after Franklin’ s death, we are (28) living in a different world, where women play an important part in every echelon of our society-not least in science, innovation, higher ecation and research.
UK universities are world leaders when it comes to advancing and (29) gender equality. The Athena SWAN charter, initially established to improve the representation of women in scientific disciplines in higher ecation, now has 145 members. It has also expanded to promote gender equality in multiple disciplines-including the arts, social sciences, humanities, business and law.
In the past decade, we have seen a (30) increase in England in the number of women accepted on to full-time undergraate degrees in science, technology, engineering and maths (Stem subjects). And in the last academic year, women (31) for more than half of all Stem postgraates at UK universities. The government is taking further steps to improve women’ s representation in science and has today awarded nine inspiring women £50,000 to develop inventions to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities we face as a society. From new materials to cut down on plastics pollution to special devices to improve posture and comfort for wheelchair users, these women are at the forefront of creating the new technology for tomorrow.
This is significant progress, but access to higher ecation is only half of the equation. To have real equality in the sector, we need to ensure talented women are able to progress into the academic and leadership roles they desire, and get the remuneration they deserve.
Data shows us the (32) to success gets harder for women to climb the further up they go.
Although women make up the majority of undergraates in our universities, just under half of academic staff are female. At (33) levels, only a quarter of professors are women, and black women make up less than 2% of all female academic staff.
I welcome the introction of pro-active strategies like the new initiative at the University of
Leicester, which I am visiting today, to increase the number of female professors by 1.5% each year, with the overall goal of having 30% professorships held by women by 2020.
There are also stark differences in pay across grades. The gender pay gap based on median salaries across the sector in 2016-17 was 13.7%, (34) there is still some way to go to ensure women are rising through the ranks to higher grade positions and being paid (35) .
答案:
26. A) accessible
27. J) overlooked
28. O) thankfully
29. K) promoting
30. E) considerable
31. B) accounted
32. G) ladder
33. L) senior
34. N) suggesting
35. D) appropriately

Colleges taking another look at value of merit-based aid*Good grades and high testscores still matter—a lot—to many colleges as they award financial aid.But with low-incomestudents projected to make up an ever-larger share of the college-boundpopulation in coming years, some schools are re-examing whether that aid, typically known as 「merit aid」, is the most effective use of preciousinstitutional dollars.George Washington University in Washington, D.C., for example, said last weekthat it would cut the value of its average merit scholarships by aboutone-third and rece the number of recipients(接受者), pouringthe savings, about $2.5million, into need-based aid. Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa.,made a similar decision three years ago. Now, Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y.,says it will phase out merit scholarships altogether. No current merit-aidrecipients will lose their scholarships, but need-based aid alone will beawarded beginning with students entering in fall 2008.Not all colleges offermerit aid; generally, the more selective a school, the less likely it is to doso. Harvard and Princeton, for example, offergenerous need-based packages, but many families who don』t meet need eligibility (資格) have been willing to paywhatever they must for a big-name school. For small regionalcolleges that struggle just to fill seats, merit aid can be an importantrevenue-builder because many recipients still pay enough tuition dollars overand above scholarship amount to keep the institution running. But for rankings-consciousschools in between, merit aid has served primarily as a tool to recruit topstudents and to improve their academic profiles. 「They』re trying to buystudents,」 says Skidmore Colllege economist Sandy Baum.Studies show merit aidalso tends to benefit disproportionately students who could afford to enrollwithout it.「As we look to the future,we see a more pressing need to invest in need-based aid,」 says Monica Inzer, dean of admission and financial aid at Hamilton, which has offered merit scholarships for 10 years. During that time, it rose in US News & World Report』s ranking ofthe best liberal arts colleges, from 25 to 17.Merit aid, which benefitedabout 75 students a year, or about 4% of its student body, at a cost of about $1milion a year, 「served us well,」 Inzer says, but 「to be discounting the pricefor families that don』t need financial aid doesn』t feel right any more.」Need-based aid remains byfar the largest share of all student aid, which includes state, federal and institutionalgrants. But merit aid, offered primarily by schools and states, is growingfaster, both overall and at the institutional level.Between 1995-96 and2003-04, institutional merit aid alone increased 212%, compared with 47% forneed-based grants. At least 15 states also offer merit aid, typically in a bidto enroll top students in the state』s public institutions. But in recent years, agrowing chorus (異口同聲) of critics has begunpressuring schools to drop the practice. Recent decisions by Hamilton and others may be 「a sign thatpeople are starting to realize that there』s this destructive competition goingon.」 says Baum, co-author of a recent CollegeReport that raises concerns about the role of institutional aid not based onneed.David Laird, president ofthe Minnesota PrivateCollege Council, says many of hisschools would like to rece their merit aid but fear that in doing so, theywould lose top students to their competitors.「No one can take one-sidedaction,」 says Laird, who is exploring whether to seek an exemption (豁免) from federal anti-trust laws so member colleges can discuss howthey could jointly rece merit aid. 「This is a merry-go-round that』s goingvery fast, and none of the institutions believe they can sustain the risks oftrying to breakaway by themselves.」A complicating factor isthat merit aid has become so popular with middle-income families, who don』tqualify for need-based aid, that many have come to depend on it. And, astuitions continue to increase, the line between merit and need blurs. That is one reason Allegheny Collegedoesn』t plan to drop merit aid entirely.「We still believe inrewarding superior achievements and know that these top students truly valuethe scholarship,」 says Scott Friedhoff, Allegheny』s vice president forenrollment.Emory University in Atlanta, which boasts a$4.7 billion endowment (捐贈), meanwhile, is taking anotherapproach. This year, it announced it would eliminate loans for needy studentsand cap them for middle-income families. At the same time, it would expand its28-year-old merit program.「Yeah, we』re playing themerit game,」 acknowledges Tom Lancaster, associate dean for undergraateecation. But it has its strong points, too, he says, 「The fact of the matteris, it』s not just about the lowest-income people. It』s the average Americanmiddle-class family who』s being priced out of the market.」*A few words about merit-based aid:Merit-based aid is aidoffered to students who achieve excellence in a given area, and is generallyknown as academic, athletic and artistic merit scholarships.Academic meritscholarships are based on students』 grades, GPA and overall academicperformance ring high school. They are typically meant for students goingstraight to college right after high school. However, there are scholarshipsfor current college students with exceptional grades as well. These meritscholarships usually help students pay tuition bills, and they can be renewedeach year as long as the recipients continue to qualify. In some cases, students may need to be recommended by their school or a tearcher as part ofthe qualification process.Athletic meritscholarships are meant for student that excel(突出) in sportsof any kind, from football to track and field events. Recommendation for thesescholarships is required, since exceptional athletic performance has to berecognized by a coach or a referee (裁判). Applicants need to send in atape containing their best performance.Artistic meritscholarships require that applicants excel in a given artistic area. Thisgenerally includes any creative field such as art, design, fashion, music, dance or writing. Applying for artistic merit scholarships usually requiresthat students submit a portfolio (選輯) of some sort, whether thatincludes a collection of artwork, a recording of a musical performance or avideo of them dancing. 1.
