C. watched the boat go under water
D. stayed in the life-raft

D. they knew their two months at sea would be over
1. C。在第二自然段的第1句就告訴我們they left Panama, Simony, they met some whales 說他們是在Simony 旅遊時遇見Whales.
2. B。 They started to hit the side of the boat,也就是說是the whales broke the side of the boat。
3. D。在他們的船沉沒之後,the couple是一直待在船上直至獲救的,而不是一直都在jumped into the life-raft。
4. B。 They also had a fishing-line and a machine to make salt water into drinking water-two things which saved their lives可知:a fishing-line 和 a machine救了他們的命。
5. D。 After fifty days at sea...

It is well known that man is much cleverer than any animal. But which is the cleverest among the animals? Some scientists think it should be Alex, an African gray parrot. He is unlike any other animal. He can really talk with people! When he says "come here" , he really wants someone to come up to him.
"Alex is as clever a child of 2 or 3 years old," says Dr. Pepperberg."He does not just repeat the sound he has been taught. He understands the words!" Alex can tell about 50 different things, name 7 colours and count from 1 to 6.
Is the parrot actually thinking in the way man does? Nobody can say.But the question is very interesting.

When I was a foreign teacher in China, every day I taught English to my students and they taught me about China. One day the topic turned to saying “I love you”. I was shocked to learn that not one of my students had said this to their mothers, nor had their mothers said it to them. “Does your mom love you?” “Of course,”they answered.
“How do you know ?”was my logical question. They responded that their mons cooked and always told them what they were doing wrong to show their caring. I was stunned .So mon’s cooking and criticzing read out as “I love you ”. “Then how do you say ‘I love you ’to her?” They agreed that getting good grades, followed by god jobs would be how they showed their love.
I come from a culture where most people are expressive enough, so I repeated these queries in classes over time. Graally, I began to get different response. Some of them had exchanged those sentiments with their moms.
One of my favorite stories of change came from a girl. When she came home from university, her mother met her at the door and hugged(擁抱)her. This had never happened before, but her mom said, “Now that you have gone I have more time to myself. I noticed that in some places mothers and children hug each other and I decided it was a good idea and that I would begin hugging you.”
In my family we all say “I love you” a lot .While it is true that we often say the words without having great depth of feelings at that moment, it is almost like a blessing we give each other. Those three little words carry a world of meaning ,even when said as a greeting, but most especially if they are the last words we say to or hear from those we love.
1.The foreign teacher_______.
A. comes from America
B. is a young woman
C. is expressive enough
D. knows much about China
2.Chinese people prefer to show love by________.
A. saying “I love you”
B. cooking
C. getting good grades
D. doing something helpful;
3.In paragraph 4,what’s the real meaning of the mom’s hugging?
A. She is meeting her daughter at the door.
B. She loves her daughter and misses her.
C. She is glad that she has more time to herself
D. he finds it interesting to hug her daughter.
4.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Say “I love you”more to your family.
B. Say “I love you”a lot to Chinese people .
C. Say “I love you”as a greeting to others.
D. Say “I love you”without great depth of feelings.

Have you ever been ill? When you are ill,you must be unhappy because your body becomes hot,and there are pains all over your body. You don't want to work, you stay in bed, feeling very sad.
What makes us ill? It is germs(細菌). Germs are everywhere. They are very small and you can't find them with your eyes, but you can see them with a microscope. They are very small and there could be hundreds of them on a very small thing.
Germs are always found in dirty water. When we look at dirty water under the microscope,we shall see them in it. So your father and mother will not let you drink dirty water.
Germs aren't found only in water. They are found in air and st. If you cut your finger,if some of the st from the floor goes into the cut(割開處),some of the germs would go into your finger. Your finger would become big and red,and you will have much pain in it. Sometimes the germs would go into all of your body, and you would have pain everywhere.

C. Don't drink dirty water.
D. Take care of your fingers.
Germs aren't found only in water. They are found in air and st. A,B選項明顯不符合題意,只有選D,並且根據第二段It is germs(細菌). Germs are everywhere.
They are very small and you can't find them with your eyes, but you can see them with a microscope. 確定選A。
Germs are always found in dirty water.
A, Germs may make us ill。

If you get into the forest with your friends, stay with them always. If you don’t, you may get lost. If you really get lost, this is what you should do. Sit down and stay where you are. Don’t try to find your friends—let them find you by staying in one place.
There is another way to help your friends or other nearby people to find you. Give them a signal (信號) by shouting or whistling (吹口哨) three times. Any signal given three times is a call for help.
Keep up shouting or whistling always three times together. When people hear you, they will know that you are not just making noise for fun. They will let you know that they have heard your signal. They give you two shouts, two whistles, or two gun-shots (槍聲). When someone gives you a signal, it is an answer to a call for help.
If you don’t think that you will get help before night comes, try to make a little house---cover up to the holes with branches (樹枝) with lots of leaves. Make yourself a soft bed with leaves and grass.
What should you do if you get hungry or need drinking water? You would have to leave your little house to look for a river. Don’t just walk away. Pick off small branches and drop them as you walk so that you can find your way back. The most important thing to do when you are lost is—stay in one place.

A.just go to the river
B. find some glasses or bottles before you go

5.This passage mainly tells you __________.
A.when you hear a signal always three times, it is a call for help
B.What you should do if you get lost in a forest
C.any signal given twice means an answer to a call for help
D.how you can live longer in a forest
1.A “Sit down and stay where you are.”和“Give them a signal by shouting or whistling three times.”
2.D 該題的答案源自“Keep up shouting or whistling always three times together. When people hear you, they will know that you are not just making noise for fun.”
3.C “They give you two shouts, two whistles, or two gun-shots. When someone gives you a signal, it is an answer to a call for help.”
4.D 根據“Don’t just walk away. Pick off small branches and drop them as you walk so that you can find your way back.”

Is there anything more important than health? I don't think so. “Health is the greatest wealth (財富),” wise people say. You can't be good at your studies or work well when you are ill.
If you have a headache, toothache, backache, earache or bad pain in the stomach, if you complain of a bad cough, if you run a high temperature and have a bad cold, or if you suffer from high or low blood pressure (血壓), I think you should go to the doctor.
The doctor will examine your throat, feel your pulse, test your blood pressure, take your temperature, sound your heart and lungs, test your eyes, check your teeth or have your chest X-rayed.
After that, he will advise some treatment, or some medicine. The only thing you have to do is to follow his advice.
Speaking about doctor’s advice, I can't help telling you a funny story.
An old gentleman came to see the doctor. The man was very ill. He told the doctor about his weakness, memory loss and serious problems with his heart and lungs. The doctor examined him and said there was no medicine for his disease.
He told his patient to go to a quiet place for a month and have a good rest. He also advised him to eat a lot of meat, drink two glasses of red wine every day and take long walks. In other words, the doctor advised him to follow the rule: “Eat at pleasure, drink with measure and enjoy life as it is.” The doctor also said that if the man wanted to be well again, he shouldn't smoke more than one cigarette a day.
A month later the gentleman came into the doctor’s office. He looked much more cheerful and much happier. He thanked the doctor and said that he had never felt a healthier man.
“But you know, doctor,” the man went on saying, “it's not easy to begin smoking at my age.”
1.The writer thinks that.
A. health is more important than wealth B. work is as important as studies
C. medicine is more important than pleasure D. nothing is more important than money
2.The doctor usually tells his patient what to do.
A. without examining the patient B. after he has examined the patient
C. if the patient doesn't take medicine D. unless the patient feels pain
3.The underlined part means “”.
A. he was feeling better than ever B. he wasn't a healthy man
C. he was feeling worse than before D. he will be well again
4.From the last sentence of the passage, we learn the man before the doctor told him not to smoke more than one cigarette a day.
A. was a heavy smoker B. didn't smoke so much
C. didn't smoke D. began to learn to smoke
5.Which of the following is NOT TRUE?
A. The doctor usually tests his/her blood pressure when a person is ill.
B. The man told the doctor he couldn't remember things.
C. The man thanked the doctor.
D. The man didn't follow the doctor’s advice
2.B “After that, he will advise some treatment, or some medicine.”
4.C 由文章最末一句可知這位紳士是說“象我這樣年齡的人開始學吸煙真是不容易”,由 “The doctor also said that if the man wanted to be well again, he shouldn't smoke more than one cigarette a day.”

If you do not use your arm or your legs for some time, they become weak; when you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory works in the same way. When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong. If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault(過錯). But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame(受責備), and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever found that some people can’t read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write and they have to remember things; they cannot write down in a little notebook.
