The spider
In one way of thinking, failure is a part of life. In another way, failure may be a way towards success. The ―spider story‖ is often told. Robert Bruce, leader of the Scots in the 13th century, was hiding in a cave from the English. He watched a spider spinning a web(蜘蛛織網). The spider tried to reach across a rough place in the rock. He tried six times without success. On the seventh time he made it and went on to spin his web. Bruce is said to have taken heart and to have gone on to defeat the English Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, made hundreds of models that failed before he found the right way to make one.
So what? First, always think about your failure. What caused it? Were conditions right? Were you in top from yourself? What can you change so things will go right next time?
Second, is the goal(目標)you're trying to reach the right one? Try to do some thinking about what your real goals may be. Think about his question, 「If I do succeed in this, where will it get me?」This may help you prevent failure in things you shouldn't be doing anyway.
The third thing to bear in mind about failure is that it's a part of life. Learn to ―live with yourself‖ even though you may have failed. Remember, ―You can't win them all.‖

sport
In sport the sexes(性別)are separate. Women and men do not run or swim in the same races. Women are less strong than men. That at least is what people say. Women are called the weaker sex, or, if men want to please them, the fair sex. But boys and girls are taught together at schools and universities. There are women who are famous Prime Ministers, scientists and writers. And women live longer than men . A European woman can expect to live until the age of 74, a man only until he is 68.Are women's bodies really weaker?
The fastest men can run a mile in under 4 minutes. The best women need 4.5 minutes. Women's time are always slower than men's, but some facts are a surprise. Some of the fastest women swimmers today are teenage girls. One of them swam 400 metres in 4 minutes 21.2 seconds when she was only 16.The first『Tartan』in film was an Olympic swimmer, Johnny Weissmuller. His fastest 400 metres was 4 minutes 49.1 seconds, which is 37.9 seconds slower than a girl 50 years later! This does not mean that women are catching men up. Conditions are very different now and sport is much more serious. It is so serious that some women athletes are given hormone (荷爾蒙)injections(注射). At the Olympics a doctor has to check whether the women athletes are really women or not. It seems sad that sport has such problems. Life can be very complicated(復雜的) when there are two separate sexes!
1.Women are called the weaker sex because ______ .
A.women do as much as men
B.people think women are weaker than men
C.sport is easier for men than for women
D.in sport the two sexes are always together
2.Which of the following is true?
A.Boys and girls study separately everywhere. B.Women do not run or swim in races with men.
C. Famous Prime Ministers are women .
D.Men can expect to live longer than women in Europe.
3.「That at least is what people say」means people ______ .
A.say other things , too
B.don't say this much
C.say this but may not think so
D.only think this
4.What problems does sport have?
A.Some women athletes are actually men.
B.Some women athletes are give hormone injections. C.Women and men do not run or swim in the same races.
D.It is difficult to check whether women athletes are really women.
5.In this passage the author implies that ______
A.women are weaker than wen , but faster
B.women are slower than men, but stronger
C.men are not always stronger and faster than women
D.men are faster and stronger than women

2004 Text 1
The expression 「tip service」 (Line 4, Paragraph 3) most probably means ________.
[A] advisory
[B] compensation
[C] interaction(D)
[D] reminder
(Line 4, Paragraph 3)
For any job search, you should start with a narrow concept—what you think you want to do -- then broaden it. 「None of these programs do that,」 says another expert. 「There』s no career counseling implicit in all of this.」 Instead, the best strategy is to use the agent as a kind of tip service to keep abreast of jobs in a particular database; when you get E-mail, consider it a reminder to check the database again. 「I would not rely on agents for finding everything that is added to a database that might interest me,」 says the author of a job-searching guide.
Line 4, Paragraph 3
when you get E-mail, consider it a reminder to check the database again. 『
Instead, the best strategy is to use the agent as a kind of reminder to keep abreast of jobs in a particular database.
[A] advisory
[B] compensation
[C] interaction
Instead, the best strategy is to use the agent as a kind of tip service to keep abreast of jobs in a particular database;when you get E-mail, consider it a reminder to check the database again.
第一句主幹:the best strategy is to use the agent as a kind of tip service
第二句主幹:when you get E-mail,
第一個句子: to keep abreast of jobs不定式作目的狀語,in a particular database 介詞分詞作後置定語。
第二個句子:consider(謂) it(賓語) a reminder(賓補) 這是一個祈使句,省略了主語YOU 。to check the database again.
use .. as..
Consider...(as)...
(1)先找介詞:to,as,of,to,of,in
(2)將句子細分:第一個介詞to和use the agent as a kind of tip service一起,不定式作表語,可以切分。 第三個介詞of,a of b,由於of b 較短,可以不用切分。 第五個介詞of 是固定搭配keep abreast of,由於of後面只接了一個jobs,可以不用切分。
Instead, /the best strategy is/ to use the agent/ as a kind of tip service/ to keep abreast of jobs/ in a particular database;/when you get E-mail,/ consider it a reminder /to check the database again.

Passage 1
Passage 2

By 「Ellen Spero isn』t biting her nails just yet」 (Lines 1-2, Paragraph 1), the author means ________.
[A] Spero can hardly maintain her business
[B] Spero is too much engaged in her work
[C] Spero has grown out of her bad habit
[D] Spero is not in a desperate situation
關鍵詞:「Ellen Spero isn』t biting her nails just yet」
When it comes to the slowing economy, Ellen Spero isn』t biting her nails just yet. But the 47-year-old manicurist isn』t cutting, filling or polishing as many nails as she』d like to, either. Most of her clients spend $12 to $50 weekly, but last month two longtime customers suddenly stopped showing up. Spero blames the softening economy. 「I』m a good economic indicator,」 she says. 「I provide a service that people can do without when they』re concerned about saving some dollars.」 So Spero is downscaling, shopping at middle-brow Dillard』s department store near her suburban Cleveland home, instead of Neiman Marcus. 「I don』t know if other clients are going to abandon me, too.」 she says.
When it comes to the slowing economy, Ellen Spero isn』t biting her nails just yet.
But the 47-year-old manicurist isn』t cutting, filling or polishing as many nails as she』d like to, either. 可能無法翻譯的如此完美,那你應該可以看出來 isn』t as many as(不如...
[A] Spero can hardly maintain her business
Spero
[B] Spero is too much engaged in her work
Spero
[C] Spero has grown out of her bad habit
Spero
[D] Spero is not in a desperate situation
Spero
01 主旨題的標志:mainly about, mainly discuss, the best title等。
(1)局部信息,即選項的內容小於文章的內容;
出現特徵:在考題中經常出現的詞有infer, imply, indicate, conclude, learn from, probably, most likely, prove /according to等。
(1)、要在閱讀原文基礎上,仔細考慮選項是否與文章主題有密切聯系;
(2)、再看選項對文章的概括性或覆蓋面如何;
(3)、要注意題目是否過大或者過小;

The big day comes at last!

Everyone wants the party to he a surprise. Mrs Jones doesn't know the children have known today is her birthday. When she comes into the classroom, the children shout, 「Happy birthday, Mrs Jones!」
And then the children get a surprise, too. Mrs Jones brings everyone a party hat and an ice cream!
( ) 1. Mrs Jones'grade students are waiting for her. A. three B.third C.No.3 D.the third
( )2. Carlos brings some一. A. cola B.napkins C.soda water D.cups
( )3. brings some cakes. A. Amy B.Carlos C.Joey D.Kate
如:the third grade,=Grade Three.
正確答案:1.B 2.C 3.A
There are some public numbers. Do you know when to use these numbers? 110 is a number for calling policeman when you have niet some illegal things. 119 is a number using for a fire accident. 120 is a number for asking medical help when somebody is serious ill or hurt. Please do not dial these numbers for fun. It is forbidden.
( )1. When you meet some thieves, you can call 110.
( )2. Somebody is serious ill, you can call 119.
( )3. There is a fire ac:cident in vour building, so you can call 119.
