英語標點符號在「實戰」中經常出現的錯誤，主要有以下三種類型：

1.對標點符號認識談薄，使用起來比較隨意。如：用中文句號（。）來結束句子；逗號、句號不分，大寫、小寫不分，亂點一氣；在疑問句後也不加問號，或者在間接引語後使用問號。

誤用：He came up and asked me what was the matter?

分析：本句為陳述句，所包含的問問是間接引語，自然應當用句號結尾，且要調整語序。

修改：He came up amd asked me what the matter was.

翻譯：他上來問我是怎麼回事。

2.對句子結構不太理解。中文句號是根據說話都的語意來使用的，即用於一段表達完整的內容之後；而英文中的句號是根據結構來用的，即每一個語法意義完整的句子後用句號。在習作中這種情況很常見。
