借著夜幕掩護，幾個在火車站對面臨近玄武湖的廣場上閑逛的幽靈突然搶奪一過路婦女的包，向東狂奔。頓時，夜空中響起凄厲的驚呼：「有人搶錢啦，抓小偷啊！」
喊聲驚動了正騎車路過的周光裕。他抬頭看見狂奔的劫匪，便不顧一切地騎車猛追。追出一百多米後，他追上了兩個劫匪。只見周光裕車頭一別，大喝一聲：「你們是干什麼的？把東西放下來！」劫匪一愣，掉頭又跑。
周光裕放下自行車，猛追了十多米，一把抓住了落在後面的劫匪魏祥和。
聽見同夥被抓後的哀鳴，跑在前面的劫匪宋全月拿著一把尖刀沖了過來，對著周光裕的大腿就是一刀。頓時，鮮血浸紅了褲腿。
好一個周光裕，他中刀後仍死死抓住魏祥和的頭發，赤手空拳地和兩名歹徒進行著殊死的搏鬥。搏鬥中，兇殘的宋全月再次舉起了帶血的尖刀，一下、兩下……鮮血從周光裕的臀部、後背、頸部、前胸流了出來。
但周光裕仍不鬆手。
宋全月對著周光裕的鎖骨下又是一刀。刀刃刺穿了周光裕的肺部。周光裕倒在了血泊中。
事後人們發現，周光裕身中6刀仍然堅持和歹徒搏鬥，直到肺部中了那致命的一刀。

周光裕，一個普普通通的下崗工人，用鮮血維護了城市的安寧。
了解周光裕的人都說，對他勇斗歹徒的行為一點都不感到奇怪，因為，當年他在農村插隊時，就因制止偷瓜而遭到過毆打。
後來，隊里看中了他那多管閑事的性格，讓他去看果園，結果惹得當地一些屢占果園便宜的人要揍他。
1976年，周光裕返城，起先被安排在南京鎢鉬材料廠當保管員。時間不長，他就因為堅持原則，制止一起偷拿廠里原材料事件而遭到毆打。盡管被打得鼻青臉腫，但他始終無怨無悔、盡職盡責地當好保管員。
見著危險往上沖已成為老周的習慣。當年，鎢鉬材料廠曾發生氨氣罐的輸氣管爆裂事件，就在大家被氨氣熏得頭昏眼花直流淚的時候，是周光裕連防護罩也沒戴就沖上去，關掉了閥門，避免了一場事故的發生。
難怪有人這樣評價周光裕：在是非面前他從不含糊；在危急時刻，他從不躲避。正因為如此，他才會在歹徒的尖刀下那樣大義凜然。
