"Save it for rainy day." That's my motto. When I have a choice between spending my money or putting it in my savings account at the bank, I always put it in the bank.I will have a lot of expenses in the future like my ecation, travel, and unforeseen emergencies. Ecation is expensive. I can't depend on my parents to pay all my bills. I have tuition, room and board, books, and incidental expenses to pay for. I'll try to get a scholarship to cover some of these costs, but I know I will be responsible for a lot of the expenses. If I spend my money now, I won't be able to pay for my ecation. I need to save money for my ecation.
Travel is also very expensive. I don't mean vacation travel. I mean travel to get to and from school. Transpacific airfare costs a lot even special reced fares. 微博沒有流行前，網路力量介入現實生活也不乏其例。2009年的鄧玉嬌刺官案就是如此，不僅擁有網路輿論的支持，在事件發生後，還有網友「屠夫」等人親赴事發地參與調查，並及時向媒體和網路通報進展。「屠夫」當時就告訴記者，他能夠突破阻礙親自見到鄧玉嬌本人，也在於網路輿論的推動，因為醫院正面臨網友的大量批評，他們也需要自證清白。
「屠夫」的實地調查又進一步吸引了網路的關注，而傳統媒體也接力報道，以至於案件最後判決鄧玉嬌的行為構成故意傷害罪，但免除處罰。這個不盡如人意的結果雖然未必獲得網路的全部認同，但也沒有人深究。這在湖北華中科技大學法學院梁木生教授看來，也是有標志性意義。
他說，輿論確實不應該干涉司法，但是可以幫助真相浮現出來。網路輿論之所以被放大，是由於其他渠道的匱乏，因此梁木生建議建立理性化解社會矛盾的平台和渠道。「社會需要多種聲音疏導，對於目前的網路輿論應該予以克制和寬容。」
但是另外一方面，網路的亢奮也容易造成對個體當事人一些權利的傷害，比如人肉搜索就是爭議較大的問題，也一度有地方試圖立法禁止人肉搜索，不過，效果並不明顯。日前，受深圳市人大法工委委託，深圳市律師協會正在起草的《深圳市個人信息保護條例》一出，引發了關注和熱議，而這也不是關於這一話題的第一次熱議。
通常認為，在輿論監督的范圍內，人肉搜索是合情合理的，這對於預防和揭露貪污腐化都有著積極的作用，比如像抽天價煙的腐敗官員被查處就是人搜積極的結果。因為像公務員、政協、人大等職能部門相關人員的信息本來就應該更加透明化，不過，公眾也擔心普通公民的隱私內容被泄露，認為這應該和公職人員區別開來。
事實上，無論是被稱為「人肉搜索第一案」最後的判賠，還是一些網路誤傷的及時反省，都讓公眾意識到網路對應的「權力」其實也是一把雙刃劍。以群情激憤的「我爸是李剛」案為例，網民也在批評肇事者李啟銘及其父親李剛，乃至該校校長時，也有批評李啟銘的女朋友——認為她應該規勸肇事者投案自首——不過，網路上對此也有分歧，最終還是將火力集中在肇事者身上。
這一現象在唐亞林看來，「丑惡現象出來以後，大家一方面要去抓社會根源，另一方面要就事論事，帶著理性態度去分析。社會應該形成理性平和、開放包容的社會心態。」他認為可以考慮從立法上解決公民權利受限制和公民利益維護的平衡問題，要呼籲全社會都遵守法律制度的精神。
