古代那些要想在天下弘揚光明正大品德的人,先要治理好自己的國家;要想治理好自己的國家,先要管理好自己的家庭和家族;要想管理好自己的家庭和家族,先要修養自身的品性;要想修養自身的品性,先要端正自己的思想;要端正自己的思想,先要使自己的意念真誠;

要想使自己的意念真誠,先要使自己獲得知識,獲得知識的途徑在於認知研究萬事萬物。

通過對萬事萬物的認識研究,才能獲得知識;獲得知識後,意念才能真誠;意念真誠後,心思才能端正;心思端正後,才能修養品性;品性修養後,才能管理好家庭家族;家庭家族管理好了,才能治理好國家;治理好國家後天下才能太平。

古之欲明明德於天下者,先治其國;欲治其國者,先齊其家;欲齊其家者,先修其身;欲修其身者,先正其心;欲正其心者,先誠其意;欲誠其意者,先致其知,致知在格物。物格而後知至,知至而後意誠,意誠而後心正,心正而後身修,身修而後家齊,家齊而後國治,國治而後天下平。

一、創作背景

據傳為孔子的七十二弟子及其學生們所作,西漢禮學家戴聖所編,孔子教授弟子的《詩》《書》《禮》《樂》《易》《春秋》「六經」,是中國古典文化中最高哲理的載體。

但是文古義奧,不易通讀,因而多做解讀以輔助理解,六經中的「《禮》」,後來稱《儀禮》,主要記載周代的冠、婚、喪、祭諸禮的「禮法」,受體例限制,幾乎不涉及儀式背後的「禮義」。而不了解禮義,儀式就成了毫無價值的虛禮。

所以,七十子後學在習禮的過程中,撰寫了大量闡發經義的論文,總稱之為「記」,屬於《儀禮》的附庸。秦始皇焚書坑儒後後,西漢能見到的用先秦古文撰寫的「記」依然不少,《漢書·藝文志》所載就有「百三十一篇」。

二、作品賞析

《禮記》四十九篇的文體大致可分為議論文、說明文、記敘文三種類型。文章結構比較完整,論證透闢,條理清晰,邏輯性強,並注意採用多種手法來說理。

《禮記》章法謹嚴,映帶生姿,文辭婉轉,前後呼應,語言整飭而多變,是「三禮」之一、「五經」之一,「十三經」之一。自東漢鄭玄作「注」後,《禮記》地位日升,至唐代時尊為「經」,宋代以後,位居「三禮」之首。

《禮記》中記載的古代文化史知識及思想學說,對儒家文化傳承、當代文化教育和德性教養,及社會主義和諧社會建設有重要影響。

三、作者簡介

戴聖,字次君,西漢時人,據據《漢書·儒林傳》《廣平府志》《歸德府志》《客家戴氏族譜》《新泰縣志》等古文獻均記載其為西漢梁國睢陽(今河南商丘睢陽區)人。曾任九江太守,平生以學習儒家經典為主,尤重《禮》學研究。與叔父戴德及慶普等人曾師事經學大師後蒼,潛心鑽研《禮》學。

漢宣帝時,戴聖曾被立為博士,參與石渠閣議,評定五經異同。終生以授徒講學和著述為業,曾選集戰國至漢初孔子弟子及其再傳、三傳弟子等人所記的各種有關禮儀等論著,編撰成書,被稱為《小戴記》或《小戴禮記》
