在第一屆「航展」確定在珠海舉行時，年輕的珠海還處在經濟剛剛開始有起色的時候，資金不太充裕，所以就有不少的人質疑舉辦「航展」的決議是否恰當，而時任珠海市市長梁廣大卻力排眾議，堅持要開「航展」，堅持一定要將珠海的品牌打出去。因此珠海「航展」才得以避免胎死腹中的尷尬結果。
